I know I always say this at the beginning of every cycle around the sun, but this year has just been far too busy already! I went to the Grand Canyon, moved to a new apartment, started a new job search, attended the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrator’s Winter Conference in NYC; all while trying to finish my new book SuperLobotomy (AKA, Lobotomy Part 2) and update my portfolio!! It’s been, to say the least, exhausting.
My New Year’s Resoultion was supposed to be updating my site more, but instead it morphed into “Find a New Apartment and Job” within a few short weeks of January 1st, which has just recently begun to be less stress-hive-inducing. Well, at least this year ushered in my first In-n-Out Burger experience, right? (PS – Totally go off-menu, and order the Neopolitan Shake. You’re welcome.)
So, onward to glory and whatnot. There’s enough of 2012 left to make it one heck of a year. In that spirit, the next few weeks have some awesome events taking place that I’ll be participating in both locally, and a bit more far-flung. Show up to one. Show up to ‘em all. I can promise they will be fun:
This Wednesday, April 11th, I’ll be reading at the Brooklyn Zine Fest’s pre-fest live reading at Brooklyn Fireproof East (119 Ingraham Street (in the alley), Brooklyn, NY 11237) (L train to the Morgan stop) from 7-10 pm. I, along with about 10 other intrepid artists and zine-ers will be reading from our work, and probably drinking some beers – come stop by, and hear me do some hilarious voices for my characters! Check out the details here on Facebook.
This Sunday, April 15th is the actual Brooklyn Zine Fest, from 11am to 6pm at Public Assembly (70 North 6th St.) in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. You can take the L to Bedford, the G to Metropolitan, or the J, M, Z to Marcy, or, drive, walk or fly, depending on where you’re coming from and what species you happen to be. (If you are not human, and can read this, please let me know. I may have developed a talent as interspecies ‘whisperer’ that I’m not quite aware of.) I’ll be selling my fabulous array of wares (books, stickers, prints, and buttons), and will be unveiling a new print for sale – come purchase one while they last! (They will be lovely – more details to come later in the week!)
Then, during the weekend of April 21, I’ll be in Columbus, Ohio at SPACE! This is a particularly exciting year at SPACE – “Wall Street Cat: Money Takes Naps” was a nominee for the SPACE prize in the main comics category, and I’ll be speaking on a panel about webcomics! Fun! Thrilling!! DARING!!! Wooo!
So, keep an eye out for some things coming up – more conventions and shows, SuperLobotomy, and some new illustrations. I’m putting a lot of effort into making this the best year yet! Lindo 2012!!!
