I had a great time at SPACE 2011 in Columbus, OH this past weekend – I got to spend lots of time with two great cartoonists Steve Seck (secktacular.com) and Morgan Pielli (IndestructableUniverse.com) talking nerdy shop-talk, eating at hilariously named restaurants, and ruling the hotel pool area like it was nobody’s business (You can see the pictures on TheLindo’s Facebook)! I also got to meet and trade books and other paper goods with some really neat comic artists from many different corners of the East & Midwest! To do everyone justice, I’m going to post each re-cap with only 5 artists/artist collectives per post. So, go check out some wonderful work!

Kira Keck’s ‘Puking Monster’ greeting cards - Adorably fun, and much cuter than seeing even the cutest animals vomit! Check out her blog kirakeck.wordpress.com for these cards, and more non-puking-realted art!
Lizzee Solomon – “Puberty Birthday” & “Summer Sedatives Mutual Paradise” – Lizzee is an incredibly talented surreal/grotesque artist. These two minis are short 4 page comics, but are both compellingly bizarre , and a treat to look at. Do what I did, and check out more of Lizzee’s work at Lizzeesolomon.com – her paintings are these amazing Technicolor versions of her comics!
Terence E. Hanley – “Orange Eyes” coloring page & Mothman ‘tour poster’ (not pictured) - Terence’s work is based on some of the world’s favorite monster & alien stories, which is a great premise by itself. His work becomes really interesting because he works primarily in coloring book format, interpreting the unique and visually exciting creatures with bold black lines and beautiful brushwork. He had two coloring books for sale “Mothman, Aliens & Flying Saucers” and “Monsters and Aliens of America” in addition to his “Mothman ’66″ 60′s style tour poster – all of these are available at Hanleyart.com
Dan Taylor – “Weird Muse Paper Dolls” – This adorable & fun paper doll set was a trade from a fellow paper doll lover after he saw the dolls in the back of “Carl Finds Love #2″. The expression on her face is priceless, as is the fact that she has a pet chicken! Check out more “Weird Muse” stuff at weirdmuse.ecrater.com!
Urchin Collective – “Mixed Feelings, Volume 3″ – This is a neat anthology comic by the Missouri-based Urchin Collective. There are 8 artists that submitted 8 different stories (Some working as teams, others alone). My two favorite parts of this book were Matt & Jeanie Bryan’s “Moses & Bean” shorts, which were great, well-drawn stories, and “Golgotha: 10,000 BC” by Aaron James Ford, which is silent, and beautifully rendered.
